The lecture is free of charge.
Cities across Europe have various approaches in dealing with the disorderly conduct of certain groups of young people. Street violence and vandalism are two examples of problematic behaviour. As a consequence, many people feel insecure in some parts of their cities. What is your approach in dealing with this insecurity? And how can we make sure these young people stay off the crime path?

Local policies and practices can help these young people achieve their educational and career goals and ward them off a criminal career. But what makes an approach preventing juvenile delinquency truly effective?

When youths disturb city life: effective approaches to juvenile crime prevention

Speakers

Our scientific expert is Professor Per-Olof H. Wikström from the Cambridge University and Director of a major research project in the field of juvenile crime prevention. He will elaborate on why young people commit acts of crime and will discuss the implications of crime prevention.

Our other key-note speaker is the Mayor of the city The Hague, Mr. Jozias van Aartsen. He will outline the successful integrated approach of the city of The Hague towards crime prevention among youth.

We call upon you to actively discuss and exchange ideas, meet people and be inspired to come up with new and insightful ways to tackle this urban challenge.
