THE PERMANENT OIL CRISIS
CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
“How will a changing energy situation affect urban design and transport infrastructure?”
IEA World Energy Outlook 2008 projects that world oil demand will grow with 25% before 2030. According to the IEA the current financial crisis will lead to lower and delayed investments in new projects that should provide sufficient relief to our energy needs. This will soon result in large oil price increases.

At “The Permanent Oil Crisis, Challenges & Opportunities”, top executives and leaders from many industrial sectors will address the resulting technological and economic challenges and how to turn these into commercial opportunities and sustainable innovations to maintain our economic growth.

The first day of the congress is dealing with political and macro economic aspects of the changing oil supplies. On the second day the congress is focussing on specific economic sectors:

  • Transport & Infrastructure. Should we rethink our ways of transportation? Motor fuels will become increasingly expensive to produce. How does this affect our logistics, transport infrastructure and urban design?

  • Energy Systems. How do we meet our growing hunger for cheap energy in the coming years? Can we afford to choose or should we develop and use every alternative thinkable?
  • Chemicals & Materials. What will happen when cheap and abundant fossil resources become increasingly expensive and in short supply?
