When the First International Conference on Sustainable Cities was announced we were unsure about what to expect. We thought that sustainability was a daily topic in our current society and therefore, its boundaries would be modified every day. So we decided to launch an open call to those who have set their sights on a sustainable future regardless of whether they belong to government, business, academia, civil organizations or if they are just citizens committed to the places they live.

And we were right! The responses have shown us that we are not mistaken. Think and discuss sustainability requires openness. So we gradually added new proposals to the Conference project: round tables, a poster exhibition, a mobile eco-museum created by Mexican artists who are working to show their viewpoint on sustainable cities.

An ancient Chinese proverb says that a bird does not sing because it has an answer, but because it has a song. We believe that all those voices that sing their own songs looking for answers, have a place in this forum. Do not hesitate to let us know your concerns, together we will find the best way to share them with the community.

Help us reducing carbon emissions attending following recommendations:

- Travel by bus instead of renting a car.

- If you choose to buy a connecting flight from Mexico City bound to Morelia, use the Official Airline for the Conference Aeromar; the airline operates with ATR or turboprop air-craft considered friendlier to the environment. The combination of high-tech engines and the use of propeller results in high fuel efficiency and noise control that contribute to environmental protection. Besides this, they offer a 25% discount for participants.

- The Organizing Committee has planned collective buses and vehicles that will wait at the airport or bus station to transfer you to your hotel. This vehicles are going to be available for moving from your hotel to the Convention Center as well as sites where cultural, tourist and social events will take place. Use these means of transport and avoid taking taxis.
